Hungary is an ideal country to enjoy eastern European cuisine and all the flavours of Central Europe. In Budapest, Gyor, Egen or in other major cities you can choose from a wide variety of restaurants specialising in Hungarian cuisine and restaurants that offer plates more associated with other European or world cuisines.

Hungary's national dish par excellence is goulash, which consists of spicy meat and rice. It is a traditional Hungarian dish, where the cuisine blends spicy aromas and flavours typical from the country. Paprika is a traditional ingredient in Hungarian cuisine as well as local vegetables, salami, pork and beef and smoked sausage.

The mocha cake and nuts and raisins in rum are also posts most preferred by the Hungarians as dessert dishes, all accompanied by a local, golden and sweet wines. Also in regions such as Eger, you will find a good selection of Hungarian red wines.

There are also many restaurants specialising in European, African or Asian cuisine, with Budapest offering restaurants specialising in Italian, French, Anglo, Chinese, Japanese cuisine. Like many European capitals, the variety is plentiful.

Any break in Hungary wouldn't be the same without sampling the local Magyar cuisine, but the country, especially the capital, holds restaurants to suit all tastes.
