Things to see and do in Hungary


There are many things to see and do in Hungary, from active tourism, playing outdoor sports to enjoying the superb nature and wildlife that inhabit one of the countries many national parks. And of course not trip to Hungary would be complete without visiting the numerous famous landmarks, many of which are situated in its capital, Budapest.

In Hungary there is plenty of cultural tourism to enjoy, with many monuments, sights and sounds to see and do, starting with its historic capital, Budapest, where the old town stands out above everything else. In Budapest you can visit the Royal Palace and the Buda Castle, both constructed during the 17th and 18th centuries. The Buda castle district with its narrow streets, old houses, gas lamps and marvellous monuments is the most romantic pedestrian district of Budapest.

Apart from the capital, other cities like Eger and Gyor also have an impressive cultural heritage. Another destination well worth visiting is Miskolc with it's beautiful historic centre.

As far as adventure tourism is concerned, besides crossing environments of many cities, adventure sports like kayaking and canoeing, hiking, biking, golf or sailing on Lake Balaton are all great options for your break in Hungary. You can also witness the spectacular Hungarian nature and wildlife in some of the stunning national parks or nature reserves in the country, with the highlights including the nature park at Badacsony, the Baradla Cave or the Fatyol Waterfalls.

There are many things to do in Hungary, in addition to everything outlined above, leisure has also its place in cities such as Budapest, where you can shop in the morning, visit museums in the afternoon and enjoy the vibrant nightlife in the evening.
